NEVER-ENDING ROAD WORK: WILL THE OFFICIALS TAKE NOTICE?

Sir,

The road between Mysore and Devalapura connecting Uttanahalli, Someshwarapura and Suttur is getting repaired since five years.

On this main road, many bridges are damaged and there are huge potholes endangering thousands of people who travel on this route daily including students, farmers and patients.

Sand loaded lorries have worsened the problem. I request the District in-charge Minister to set a deadline for completion of this road since lakhs of rupees might have been misused in this never- ending road work.

Though the matter was brought to the notice of the concerned authorities, it went unattended. I request the concerned elected representatives and officials to address this long pending issue so that the villagers can travel smoothly. The photos show the cur- rent status of the road.

SCHOOL AUTHORITIES MUST NOT BE IGNORANT

Sir,

I was very happy to read a news item with regard to RTO 'intensifying' the drive against vehicles carrying school children in excess of permissible number. It was high time the authorities woke up to this lurking danger (SOM dated July).

The school authorities could not have been ignorant about the over-crowding issue. I cannot believe that people who have held responsible positions in the past are reacting in such a manner.

In the first place, the school authorities should have themselves complained against the errant vehicles. Just by saying the RTO should first act against the polluting vehicles does not absolve them from their responsibility towards the safety of the school children. Pointing out another wrong doing does not in any way make anything smaller.

We should appreciate the RTO for taking this step and do our bit in every way possible for this menace to be stopped. I very well understand the hardship that the parents will have to face to get their wards to the concerned schools in time. They will have to work out solution to this along with the school authorities. Everyone must understand and co-operate since these things are done for the safety of children.
